We have had several questions about Emme's name, so I thought I would post about it, just in case you've been wondering.
Emmeline (pronounced like Caroline)
* the pediatrician's office says Emmelene (rhymes with Darlene). Every time!
* a few people have said Emmelyn (rhymes with Lynn)
We chose Emmeline, just cuz we like it! It doesn't really have any special meaning or family history.
Have you ever seen the movie Ann of Green Gables? Have you seen the sequel to that? Ann of Avonlea? I LOVED those books and movies when I was younger. I've seen the movie a billion times- never get tired of it. You have to be a true fan to really know where I'm going with this. Anyway, in the sequel, Ann goes and teaches at an all girls school. She befriends a wealthy family and they have a daughter named Emmeline.
[Also, Emmeline's dad proposes to Ann and although, he was a great guy- we really knew that Gil was the only one for Ann. Anyone still with me??? No? Well, trust me. Great movies- you should see them some time.]
Enough about that! I first heard the name Emmeline in those movies and I always really liked it. When we were listing names we liked, it made the short list and ultimately became our favorite.
We often call her Emme (like the award given to actors- Emmy) for short. We also say Emme Clare!
Clare (pronounced just like Claire)
We chose the name Clare after my paternal grandmother, Clara Faye. She passed away when I was in high school and I thought it was a great way to honor her memory. We thought Clare sounded better with Emmeline, as opposed to Clara.
And there you have it, the history and pronunciation of Miss Emmeline Clare!
